Treasure Island C. C. Culvert
Specifications and Standards
The following specifications
and standards apply to culverts installed within the Treasure Island road
right-of-way (ROW). This ROW is defined as the 40 foot ROW specific to the paved
road. The paved road is approximately twenty (20) feet in width. The ROW extends
twenty (20) feet from the paved road centerline resulting with ten (10) feet of
unpaved ROW on either side of the existing paved road.
Culverts are used wherever
controlled drainage is required. They provide cross-drainage to a roadway ditch
system on either side of a driveway paralleling the Treasure Island road system.
All culverts installed,
related to Treasure Island Drive shall, at a minimum, meet the following
specifications:
- Size:
Minimum ten (10) inches diameter; sufficient length to go under
complete driveway (i.e., about 10’ for a single-wide and about 20’ for a
double-wide driveway) with a minimum of six (6) inch
exposed at each end.
- Type:
aluminum culvert, corrugated metal pipe, zinc-coated (galvanized) and
aluminum/zinc alloy coated ("galvalume") corrugated steel pipes or ABS pipes
are accepted on an equal gauge basis.
- Grade: culverts being installed must
have no more than one-half (1/2) inch of fall per ten (10) feet of run.
- Position: culverts must be in line
with existing drainage ditch.
- Construction: culverts require
backhoes and compaction equipment for installation. Backfill around and above
the culvert will be three-quarter (3/4) inch to one and one-half (1-1/2) inch
crushed rock. Three-quarter (¾) inch minus crushed rock will be used for final
grade.
- Maintenance: culverts will require
annual inspections and inspections after major storm events by a Treasure
Island Country Club Board member or Club employee. The Board is responsible
for assuring that clogged culverts are cleaned out in a timely manner. Island
residents may report culvert problems to the Board and may volunteer to assist
the Board with maintenance.
